Umpire Clinic FAQ
Annette Umpire Clinics – Frequently Asked Questions
When will the clinic be held in 2019?
Level 1 Clinic - April 20 @ 9:00 AM. Level 2 Clinic - April 27 @ 9:00 AM. Register at www.baseballontario.com/Umpires/Club/UmpireClinicMM.aspx
Where is the clinic held exactly?
It is at the St. Cecelia Catholic School, 355 Annette St., Toronto, ON M6P 1R3.
So the clinic starts at 9:00am, but when does it end?
Probably around 3:30, but that depends on the instructor and also on the class. If everyone pays attention and focuses on the task at hand, there is a good chance you will finish early. If there is a lot of chatting and clowning around, it could go later. If a parent is picking you up, you might want to bring a cell phone so that you can call when you are ready.
What if I want to leave early to go to the Blue Jays game or a birthday party?
Any absence from the course is completely at the discretion of the instructor. If you miss any important parts of the course, you will not pass. If you are going to miss any part of the course, come early and speak to the instructor about it.
What about lunch?
The instructor will decide when to let you go for lunch, normally after one of the course sections is completed. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own lunch. There won’t be a lot of time and there is no fast food in the immediate vicinity.
What should I wear?
The clinic rooms tend to get hot so light clothing and running shoes are recommended. If it is a cool day, bring a sweatshirt that you can throw on for the outdoor portion of the course.
I already took Level One last year, how come I have to take it again?
The course material is not the same and it alternates each year. Getting your Level One is considered to be a two-year program, so you must take the Level One course in two consecutive years.
Is there anything I can do to prepare for the course?
Sure, you can read up on the rules of baseball at the Baseball Ontario website here:
http://www.baseballontario.com/Umpires/news/rules.aspx
You can also find various practice tests online, just google “Practice baseball umpire test” and you will find lots of quizzes to test your knowledge of the rules of the game.
Are the Annette House League rules the same as for Baseball Ontario?
There are some differences which take into account that some players are new to the game and, for example, might not know how to slide into home on a close play. Official house league rules will be made available to you for your review.
